Android Q Beta 5 now available with better, more complex gestures

The fifth Android Q beta is officially rolling out to users now, after several leaks over the last few days. Android Q Beta 5 doesn’t bring a lot of new things to the table, which isn’t a big surprise considering there are only a couple more betas to go before release. Instead, Beta 5 marks the first ‘release candidate’ beta and is primarily for developers to test apps in preparation for the final version. That said, there are a few new tweaks. For one, the new gestures that leaked, such as the swipe-from-corner gesture to launch Assistant, are now present. There’s also a new ‘peek’ behaviour for the back gesture, so it should work better with apps that use the slide-out menu.

Generally speaking, the steel flanges refer to the joints specially used for connecting pipes. For example, two steel pipes with a diameter of 100 can be connected by welding or electric welding. Once welded, it is not easy to disassemble unless it is cut by a cutter or Electric welding to cut open. However, if a flange (usually a round flange) is used, a gasket seal can be added and then fixed with a screw cap. It can also be easily disassembled when the pipeline fails or is overhauled. In addition, if there are flanges on both sides of the large gate valve switch, it is convenient to remove the switch. The Welding neck flanges is normally referred to as the high hub flange. It is designed to transfer stresses to the pipe, thereby reducing high stress concentrations at the base of the flange. A weld neck flange (also known as a high-hub flange and tapered hub flange) is a type of flange. There are two designs. The regular type is used with pipes. The long type is unsuitable for pipes and is used in process plant. A weld neck flange consists of a circular fitting with a protruding rim around the circumference. Generally machined from a forging, these flanges are typically butt w...

Just as you rely on a well-designed lighting plan inside your home, you should pay careful

Just as you rely on a well-designed lighting plan inside your home, you should pay careful attention to how you illuminate the exterior. Outdoor lighting can ensure your family’s safety, improve home security and enhance how you use the space. Judicious use of outdoor decorative lights gives your home character. They can be used to highlight flower gardens, decorative architectural components and landscaping. Small, low-voltage fixtures work well along the edges of walkways. These fixtures can be powered by the home electrical system, or solar cells that collect and store energy during the daylight hours. Handrails and stair steps can be accented and illuminated by rope lighting. Rope lights are plastic tubes that house a string of LED lamps. Often these rope lights are used on deck railings to create a festive look. They come in a variety of colors and are often inexpensive. Small spotlights are often used for accent lighting. These fixtures can be manufactured with a spike that pushes into the ground for easy installation. The light head can be rotated and angled for precise positioning. These fixtures can be powered by solar panels or by the home’s electrical system. You can ...

In 1980 a young French engineer called Philippe Cimadomo formed a small electrical engineering company in Grenoble dedicated to improving efficiency in Quality Control – Metrologic Group was born. With the arrival of desktop computing and Windows operating systems in the early eighties, the company introduced the first ever Windows based 3D measuring software, known as Metrolog. Little could they have known at that moment in time the impact this innovation would have on the 3D inspection market. The company now has an annual turnover of around £40 million with offices and resellers located throughout the World, and thousands of licences of the latest Metrolog X4 software in daily use throughout all major manufacturing industries. In 2018, Metrologic Group was acquired by Sandvik Group for over £300m, a record acquisition within the metrology sector, bearing in mind that Metrologic Group is predominantly a software company. In recent years, there has been a market perception that Metrolog X4 software is expensive to buy and maintain, and in some respects, this is true as several cheaper software solutions exist. This is particularly the case for those offered directly by the mea...

Storm Desmond: Plans to replace damaged Kendal bridge

Plans have been unveiled for the replacement of a Cumbrian bridge badly damaged during Storm Desmond. Gooseholme Bridge in Kendal was one of hundreds in the county destroyed or damaged during the devastating December 2015 storm. Cumbria County Council is spending £1.6m on the project, which is due to get under way in early 2020. The new steel single span design will be almost a metre higher than the existing structure to improve water flow and wider to allow better disabled access. Peter Thornton, deputy leader of Cumbria County Council, said: “It’s highly valued by local residents and I’m delighted that the design of the replacement bridge will provide better access and be wide enough for both pedestrians, disability scooters and cyclists. 300mm Cable Tray Suppliers for Sale “Closing the footbridge has caused inconvenience to local residents and I’d like to thank them for their patience during this period.” A spokesperson for the Environment Agency added: “Our Kendal project team have worked closely with Cumbria County Council to ensure that the bridge design is flood resilient and helps reduce flood risk.” Another leaked memo fro...

Taming The Beast: Pro-Tips For Designing A Safe Homebrew Laser Cutter

Homebrew laser cutters are nifty devices, but scorching your pals, burning the house down, or smelling up the neighborhood isn’t anyone’s idea of a great time. Lets face it. A 60-watt laser that can cut plastics offers far more trouble than even the crankiest 3D-printers (unless, of course, our 3D printed spaghetti comes to life and decides to terrorize the neighborhood). Sure, a laser’s focused beam is usually pointed in the right direction while cutting, but even an unfocused beam that reflects off a shiny material can start fires. What’s more, since most materials burn, rather than simply melt, a host of awful fumes spew from every cut. Despite the danger, the temptation to build one is irresistible. With tubes, power supplies, and water coolers now in abundance from overseas re-sellers, the parts are just a PayPal-push away from landing on our doorsteps. We’ve also seen a host of exciting builds come together on the dining room table. Our table could be riddled with laser parts too! After combing through countless laser build logs, I’ve yet to encounter the definitive guide that tells us how to take the proper first steps forward in keeping ourselves safe while building our ...

Early adopters of LED lighting will remember 50,000 hour or even 100,000 hour lifetime ratings printed on

Early adopters of LED lighting will remember 50,000 hour or even 100,000 hour lifetime ratings printed on the box. But during a recent trip to the hardware store the longest advertised lifetime I found was 25,000 hours. Others claimed only 7,500 or 15,000 hours. And yes, these are brand-name bulbs from Cree and GE. So, what happened to those 100,000 hour residential LED bulbs? Were the initial estimates just over-optimistic? Was it all marketing hype? Or, did we not know enough about LED aging to predict the true useful life of a bulb? I put these questions to the test. Join me after the break for some background on the light bulb cartel from the days of incandescent bulbs (not a joke, a cartel controlled the life of your bulbs), and for the destruction of some modern LED bulbs to see why the lifetimes are clocking in a lot lower than the original wave of LED replacements. Any discussion of light bulb lifetime would be incomplete without mention of the Phoebus cartel, an international organization formed in 1924 by the world’s leading light bulb manufacturers to manipulate the bulb market. As discussed by Markus Krajewski in “The Great Lightbulb Conspiracy”, the cartel assigned ...
